MARIO SOARES
The Mario Soares Gallery carries the name of its creator: an artist deeply connected to nature and passionate about Art, Fashion, and Design.
Born into a family of farmers, Mário grew up in the countryside, surrounded by the colors and textures of rural life, spending his first 18 years on his family’s farm in Bocaiúva, Minas Gerais. Since childhood, drawing was more than a pastime – it was a calling, a dream that always beat strongly in his heart.
At the age of 20, he decided to follow this calling and set out in search of new horizons. He lived in cities such as Muriaé, Belo Horizonte, and Florianópolis, each of them bringing experiences and encounters that enriched his human and artistic formation.
In 2017, he graduated in Fashion Design at the School of Fine Arts – UFMG and soon after spent a season in Italy, where he deepened his perspective on Art, Fashion, and Design. Returning to Brazil, he began his career as a textile print designer, collaborating with renowned fashion brands and studios in both Brazil and Italy. That same year, he co-founded Fratelli Ateliê, in his hometown, and later, in 2019, the Curitiba-based print design studio Rapó Creative.
All these journeys, marked by travels, affections, and encounters with people and cultures, shaped the unique artistic language of Mário Soares. From this experience, in 2020, the Mario Soares Gallery was born – a space of visual narratives with the purpose of telling stories, rescuing memories, and bringing Brazilian art to the world.
With the creation of the Gallery, Mário was invited to illustrate the big screen of the Encontro with Fátima Bernardes TV show (Rede Globo), where his works were featured for a week. That same year, he was the guest illustrator for the September issue of Casa e Jardim Magazine, consolidating his presence in the national art scene.
His path is also marked by significant exhibitions. In 2020, he held his first solo show, “Memories of Minas”, at Montes Claros Shopping, featuring 31 works inspired by the affective memories of northern Minas Gerais. In 2021, he presented “Between Masks”, a reflection on the use of masks during the pandemic. That same year, he exhibited “Memories of Minas Gerais” at the Guimarães Rosa House Museum in Cordisburgo, immersing himself in the writer’s universe. In 2022, he participated in the group exhibition “In de Pendencias” at Jan Arnold Gallery in Vienna, Austria.
Always seeking to refine his practice, in 2025 Mário took part in the Drawing Immersion course at the School of Visual Arts at Parque Lage (Rio de Janeiro) and the Plein Air and Portrait program at the Florence Classical Art Academy (Italy). These experiences further sharpened his technique and expanded his artistic research, strengthening the poetics of his work.
A neonaïve artist, Mário Soares develops a vibrant and contemporary visual language. His creations explore a mix of techniques, ranging from digital painting to manual processes in acrylic, oil, pastel, watercolor, and gouache. This plurality of materials and processes brings dynamism and richness to his work, allowing each narrative to unfold with its own intensity. His themes portray daily life, affective memories, landscapes, fauna, and flora from Brazil and beyond, always through a poetic gaze that transforms personal experiences into universal stories.
As the artist himself defines:
“My purpose is to take you on a journey through art and make your world more joyful and colorful.”
